Understanding Different Limited Editions
All limited editions follow the same format. Whether S/N, A/P or other rare editions. The first number is the number of the image. The second number is the total number in that image, edition and size that were made. Example: Your painting is labeled 55/550. This would mean your image is number 55 of 550 made in the S/N edition. An example of an Artist proof would be 5/10 A/P. It is number 5 of a total of 10 Artist Proofs. Please note: They are numbered generally as they are sold not as they are made. (This means that the very first limited edition ever made may be numbered 1, 25, 500 or ????) Now for a closer look at the editions.
Signed and Numbered (S/N) Edition
This edition is a limited edition, signed by Simon and numbered. Every S/N canvas giclee is hand embellished using the same acrylics Simon paints with, however it is done by one of his personal apprentices. It comes with it's individual Certificate of Authentication (COA).
Artist Proof (A/P) Edition-
Originally in the art world the A/P was very special. A reserved edition that the Artist used to "proof" his/her work. Not only were they the first made, but the A/P's were the best looking print ( since the colors would fade as the image was printed, so number 1 was better than number 10). The A/P's generally were highly sought after and went for premium prices. In today's high tech world the image is just as perfect with number 10,000 as in number one, however the Artist Proof edition has remained a popular choice for artists and collectors.
This edition is a limited edition, signed by Simon Bull and numbered same as the S/N. Also, every A/P edition canvas giclee is hand embellished using the same acrylics Simon paints with, by Simon or one of his two personal apprentices. The difference is the edition size. It is limited to only about 10% of the limited edition run. Example: If 195 S/N's are made, generally the A/P's will be 10% (or in this case 20) of the run. It also comes with it's individual Certificate of Authentication (COA). They typically sell for $100-$500 more than the S/N.
Special & Exclusive Editions:
Examination Proof (E/P) Edition (2006)
This edition , started in 2006 is a limited edition, signed by Simon and numbered. What makes this edition special, is its limited availability. Designed to give Collectors a "First Look" at an image, this edition is the first edition produced and sent out to galleries. Not all images come in a E/P.
Every E/P canvas giclee is hand embellished using the same acrylics Simon paints with, however it is done by one of his personal apprentices. It comes with it's individual Certificate of Authentication (COA).
Altier National (A/N- Retired) Edition-
This edition was originally released by "Media Arts Group" when they were Simon Bull's publisher in the United States. Despite the different name, the A/N edition is nothing more than a S/N edition that was a Giclee rather than a Canvas Transfer (see FAQ'S). It typically was available on the larger of the two sizes on any given image, the smaller being the Canvas transfer. This was a cost issue, since Giclees looked better, but at the time were far more expensive to produce. Technology has changed this. Since Simon publishes himself in the states, ALL canvas limited editions are now Giclees.
Master's Edition (M/E)-
Not Advertised, this rare edition is special. Only available on canvas, the M/E is extensively hand embellished only by Simon Bull. It then is dated and a special remarque (image) is added to the front. Each one is unique and original. Essentially making it a Semi - Original painting.
It comes with it's own, special, Certificate of Authentication (COA). They sell unframed for two Times (2x) the S/N price. These may include unpublished Originals, or unpublished sizes. Email For Details.
